Re: FINAL POLL: Warehouse Write-In
Glad to see Spoon (11.21.98) getting so much love here. Definitely worthy of a multi-mix release, I just hope that the whole show is on the short list for a future live trax release. This was one of my few live shows, and the energy was incredible. Near perfect setlist with so many great jams and so much Bela. The crowd was ready to explode when the band came on for the encore and then...Spoon...and then...#41. At the time, it was a head scratcher. Everyone quieted down, people started to leave. #41 went on...and on... for nearly 30 minutes. One by one band members began dropping out of the jam, if I remember right some of them were even leaving the stage, and the last few minutes were just Carter with some very sparse and quiet playing. It was hard to even tell when the final notes were played. I was sure they would follow up with one more song, but nope, the lights came up and that was it. And yet, in hindsight, this may be one of the most unique encores in DMB history. I haven't been to many shows since (curse you, poverty of youth), but there are close to a hundred live releases that almost uniformly end with a high intensity blast...would be nice to have this one with it's mellow jam out at the end. The fact that this show has the one and only Spoon with Bela only adds to the uniqueness of it.
