It's basically a Steven Spielberg and Stephen King mash-up and it is awesome. It's Sci-Fi, set in the 1980s, great music and great directing/effects.

plot the way by only real critique of the plot so far, towards the end of ep 1x04:

If I was the sherrif who just discovered the body was indeed fake, even if you then want to scope out the lab, dont you AT LEAST make a quick trip to the mom's house that you know it's not his real body, so he's got to be starting to believe at least some of the story. For all he knows he may never walk bak out of that facility alive

for anyone wondering why the sheriff looks familiar... well I mean he's become a quite popular and busy character actor over the last few years, but probably his most recent big role was Elliot Hirsch on The Newsroom. The guy who anchored the show that always followed Will's (and Don was his EP).

Just finished the show this morning, that was fantastic. I loved everything about it; the the acting, the tone, the setting, the music, the story. I would love to see more sci fi made like this these days.

actually what I thought was perhaps the best moment of the series so far for the sheriff character (I've finished 5eps)

pretty much the whole scene where he checks out Will's "body", once he's in the morgue fridge. Deciding there in the moment how far he was going to go, trying to summon the courage, especially once he whipped his knife out. like "please do not let me be wrong", once he's literally going to cut the body open to verify. Just top notch acting the whole time.

Every time the sheriff (Hopper) was on screen I was absolutely zoned in. He was my favorite character, from the start when he was an ass and clearly wasn't interesting, I found him so intriguing. And he really became something great. El was also fantastic, I loved her and her lack of dialogue and action until seemingly the last second. It really made her words and actions much more powerful. Phenomenal child actor in her, and really the rest of the kids too.

the Steve kid who's the sister's boyfriend, it was driving me nuts who he reminded me of, especially when looking on his IMDB, there's nothing I'd seen before. Then it hit me -- he totally looks like a slightly younger version of Ben Schwartz (Jean Ralphio on Parks & Rec, among other things).

and man some of the particular camera shots surrounding the funeral, between the composition, editing and music, I swear I felt like I was watching one of the original Nightmare On Elm Street movies for a minute or two.

Man, this came out of nowhere (in a great way.) Plowed through the season in just a few days. Just awesome across the board. The show is basically ET + LOST + set in the 80s.

Here are some post-season thoughts:

1. At first, I was shocked that Steve and Nancy ended up together. But then I thought about it, and realized they gave Steve such a great character arc. He was kind of an asshole, but never went way over the line. And he also redeemed himself big time towards the end (standing up to his asshole friends, helping fight the monster.) Very much reminded me of Sawyer from LOST. So while I was shocked at first, I slowly appreciated that the showrunners stayed away from going against what we normally see.

2. I read that season 2 will be a continuation of sorts for this particular storyline. I'm OK with that, provided it doesn't get to the point of "How much shit can happen to this small group of people?"

3. I kind of assumed they'd go there, but I also give the showrunners credit for having the balls to kill off Barb. And not just kill her off, but she REALLY had a rough go of it with that monster.

On one hand its very entertaining and Im eager to see more. It has that great nostalgic 80s feel like people are saying.

On the other hand, it feels almost too much ET/80s/Super 8. Like...shamelessly like it. Netflix is great at finding out what people like and creating a series based on those likes. This feels like they tried too hard in a way. The algorithm they used just pieced this show together.

I dont know...I know that sounds weird.

I am enjoying it tho, so that has to count

3 episodes in... I don't 'love it'... I'm not 'hooked'. I'll keep watching this season. The story is hard to follow, and the directing is below average. The acting is pretty good; Winonna is actually great, and the sheriff and "eleven" are very good.

Eeeasy there, Brand (Goonies Reference). I was saying I enjoyed it and am looking forward to more episodes.

All Im saying is it seems a bit overly formulaic.

Just finished it. Give it an 8/10 for me personally. Nailed the 80s Television aspect. Great use of soundtrack. The CGI vs photography was spot on. GREAT character arcs and I love all homages to Evil Dead, especially the "living room" scene in the last ep.

Just finished. Enjoyed it a lot. I'd go with a solid 8. Loved the vibe and thought the performances were very good especially the sherif. I dont really know about a second season though
