Man this was a fun ass day when these leaked. I was eating breakfast at a restaurant the morning after these leaked. I hadn't checked boards the night before and I was just doing my routine check at breakfast and was like holy shit!!! Just craziness. It’s no Lillywhite sessions, but it’s still an exciting leak.

I really like some material on here. Some of the jams with no lyrics are sweet. The already known songs are great, then gas into fire and early home are really fun. This will always take me back to great times when I listen to it.

Totally agree. There’s some gems in these sessions. Def more interesting, especially the lyrics & jams, than CT (the album).

Even something like “Ask” that’s essentially just a jam/idea, you can tell it has great potential. I envision Boyd going off on the outro if it would’ve been played live.

The best part of Break Free was the horn jam at the end. So I’m hoping that the reworked neutered version we got in the fall means that they also decided to revisit ABC.

CT and the Batson sessions are just completely different for the most part, Batson sessions are more live songs

True, but those have been road-tested before. I meant more like Celebrate, Red Glare, Early Home, Drive, etc.

People always say this. It might be a personal preference, but I liked the way the new take ended up. I like the keys solo, and the chill horns that slowly fill things in and add color. Then Dave comes back in subtly to take the whole thing home and it's just lovely.

This, 100%. I've had dealings with at least on of the dudes responsible and he is the pettiest, most juvenile adult I've ever had to deal with. No question they are jealous that Ants found success while other sites closed down and they just can't get over it.

Red Glare is really the only “new” song that I could see them playing at this point. Early home and Drive me Away are too dark, and the rest of the tunes just don’t sound like DMB

I agree, Break Free is just an okay song in my opinion, not bad by any means, but nothing great. Until the end. I absolutely love the ‘ABC’ section of Break Free, always have.

But I also really enjoyed the jazzy electric piano solo by Buddy. I wish they could combine the two. The song just really needs that change, without it it is quite repetitive.

If theyre going to keep playing Can't Stop, I really wish they would work in that middle eastern jam from these sessions. So awesome.

Agreed, if they would have Tim do a middle eastern scale solo there, it would make the song 10x more enjoyable. Not as cool as the violin solo, but would still be cool, and would make the song seem not as repetitive (one of my biggest gripes about the song)

Also, the “Free the beast” part would be so much better without the lyrics (like tBS)

really wish we could have gotten the early time bomb version from these, but I guess that was the cavallo sessions.

From what we've gathered in the early discussions of the leak, the "3rd disc" was the roughest of them all and supposedly not worth it in comparison to the other two discs that had more completed versions/takes of the same songs. But keep me honest guys.

These recordings do really have that hoped-for magic, for music listeners and fans of any band , whenever sessions are indicated to exist from an atypical period of any band, and there are songs with no precursor or eventual later appearance!! i am not sure how many of them would have worked on an album, but in this format (sort of a demos wine tasting?) they hit the spot perfectly!
It is still such a relief that they did actually find their way, after when seemed like there was no chance they could make it out!!

Absolutely. It's a shame those two sit on the shelf. I wish those two were floating around since the the 04 tour, gas into fire was teased so don't know when they were written.

I don't recall but was adsr tried in these sessions? I believe a read a post on here, somewhere, that it was much older than it appeared when it actually debuted. I'd throw adsr as better than anything on ct too.

There are 3-4 good ideas on those disks. There’s a lot of stuff that needed shelving or further development. There’s a reason Roi blew up at the conclusion of these.

Agreed entirely. I’m glad some of these were nipped in the bud, and I only wish Cornbread was as well

I don’t mind Cornbread live, but all the studio cuts of it we’ve heard are trash. It just hasn’t worked in the studio.

COCO breakdown and the middle eastern can’t stop are 2 fantastic ideas that really make those songs better. Especially in a live setting I could see them being cool but unfortunately Dave doesnt like good ideas.
