Isn't a nostalgic act supposed to make you feel a sense of nostalgia? It seems what people are saying is "this isn't the band I saw 10-15-20 years ago.

I don't think it's fair nor accurate to call them a nostalgia act.

We can sit here and argue til the cows come home about what the problem is. Poor sets, not giving a shit. Whatever. I don’t really care. I saw my last DMB show on Tuesday in Clarkston. Loved the ride, but for me it’s over.

I couldn't disagree more. I read this before heading to Toronto. Probably my least favorite setlist but the view from the PIT was amazing. Dave has not checked out, he just doesn't give AF what people want the sets to be. I am A-OK with it. I had a great time.

I saw DMB and Phish two weeks apart in Camden.

The DMB crowd has aged with me (I'm 36). I saw a lot of attendees in their 30s and older.

At Phish I saw people of all ages. Maybe that's because Phish is more of a party. I haven't been to one in a few years but I went to some country shows (Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean) and there were a ton of young folks there. Maybe the college kids go to country shows because those are more of a party than DMB? Or those artists get more radio play?

Anyone else have any similar experiences noticing that there aren't many college kids at DMB or was it just my scenario?

They do. When so many other bands play the same sht every night for 20 years and then my band does not, I don't care what shows up anymore I'm just glad to be seeing them again. Life is too serious to post about DMB setlist choices, imo

Dmb is absolutely not even close to the party scene it was 10-12 years ago

There are plenty of positives and negatives but some people here are going to bitch no matter what they do, if I were Dave I would probably have the pound sand mentality towards some of the crowd as well

The sets are a bit weak, but the performances are fantastic. The band sounds great. I hope to God Boyd never comes back, because him leaving was pure addition by subtraction.

He sounded awful for years before being canned.

Most disappointed I’ve been was WPB last year. They played Again and Again back to back nights and Dave introduced it with the exact same line both times “I asked Timmy to play two guitars...”

Then I got disappointed again this year after Jacksonville when I realized that the 11 shows I had gone to over the past year or so were basically all the same setlist.

I had to look at the WPB shows to see how bad they were...not good, but solid compared to the Camden shows, which really ruined this band for me!

Come Tomorrow (the shitty song) in the encore BOTH nights last year at WPB is such a letdown. I still feel bad for those there.

They also played Can’t Stop and A&A both nights. Yikes...

Damn, that second video is real! You know the reason he has the body language he has when they talk about the fans, is because he’s legit freaked out by psycho rail heads who are railed all summer long. There’s one in particular that’s been mentioned here many times who has the whole band tattood all over her body.

Yea that last video is telling, and I’ve seen that reaction many times now. He is clearly very unsettled by mega fans, and in some cases I don’t blame him, like the woman you’re referring to. But it also comes off as if he thinks all his big fans are that same type of psychotic-obsessed. The new WH pit process is also another sign of this. It’s almost like he used to be able to block it out but now even thinking about it bothers him, so he reverts to talking about the enjoyment he and the band have on stage.

Why don't they just get rid of the Pit and go back to seats like they used to? Those crazies will not be able to be on the rail every show. What was the first year of the Pit 2010?

At Pensacola it was a super old crowd. At Oak Mountain, it was a really young college age crowd. Oak Mountain also really close to two major university's and it was right after exams were over. It really just depends on the situation.

Dave seems like a pretty laid back and normal guy- I’m sure he cannot understand why someone would be so incredibly obsessed with him. It probably freaks him out - sort of like a bad lifetime movie (obsessed stalker fan who is literally at every concert waiting for Dave outside his house lol).

People do this, and it seems to not even be enough anymore:
Tight means not sloppy and the music is on point. Most songs are played to perfection. Barley any flubs. And yes, they are a nostalgic act. People go to hear songs from 10-15-20-25 years ago to bring them back to a happy place. What people mean they aren't the same band they were means they take less risks and play less variety, which nostalgic acts do. The shows are safe, but still bring back those memories.

Pearl Jam kicking it hard? The band that has played exactly 7 stadium shows in the last 3 years in the US and a small EU tour? They're by far my favorite band, but I'd take a summer of stale shows over what they're touring has become over the past 10+ years.

i saw Uncle Kracker at a little theatre in my home town last night. Thats a nostalgia act. Little Drift Away, Follow Me and everything is alright. I guess the biggest problem with DMB and has been forever, is that us fans expect more from this band than what it is. They have never had set variety like phish or the dead, they dont really improvise, and we get butt hurt cause we see the talent and know what the band could be, but they just arent that. calling them a nostalgia act though really makes me say ughhhh

Had DMB taken a similar route with their touring since LeRoi passed, I'm guessing most people here would have rather taken all the shows we've gotten in that time period in a heart beat, despite all the conniptions seen by this site since.

I have attended 0-1 shows per year over the past 4 years (a large drop-off compared to years prior) and WPB N1 last year was the only show I attended for the 2018 tour. I felt the same feeling. Trying to stay optimistic that this years show (Bristow) brings back some of that magic I used to feel. If not....

I mean their shows are still really good, that’s what I’m talking about. They’ve never been a touring behemoth.

They have never had set variety like phish or the dead, they dont really improvise, and we get butt hurt cause we see the talent and know what the band could be, but they just arent that. calling them a nostalgia act though really makes me say ughhhh
goes without saying too but if the song output since 2001 had been any better we might not be having these conversations.

Even Phish, since they came back in 2009, hasn't really put out stellar albums. But they have A) such a large catalogue that they don't have to rely on a handful of songs to get them through a show B) jam out even the so/so songs that by the end of them you're like "well that was cool"
