Playing singles is fine and normal for any band. DMB has tons of them. They still write and heavily play new music and "deep cuts" from throughout their history. They are just basically the same ones they've played for years and have grown stale for many hear.
For them to be considered a nostalgia act I'd say they would have to be no longer writing/playing new music and the sets would be even more stagnant, like a rotation of ~40 songs that were 90's heavy and pretty much singles from albums beyond that.
They aren't doing that or really anything close. I think many hear would like them to be a full on nostalgia act. The SPAC sets prove to me they are far off from that distinction. Look at the list of classics that are tour "regulars" that weren't played. If they were going for nostalgia those songs get played damn near every night.

I gave my definition literally two posts above yours. It's not an insult. It's just not a distinction current dmb warrants.
