I’m not saying the officers should be going to jail but, the department should admit it was an improper use of force, compensate the victims family, and fire the officers.

Instead what they usually do is say it was justified and nothing happens.

How about that officer that shot that man laying on his belly in the hallway of a hotel, that was pulling up his pants? After, the officer said he would do the exact same thing again, 100%, even knowing then what he knows now. That’s fucked up.

If the department took action as they should have maybe he and others would try to act differently.

I would agree with this but also add a small caveat because in the days before the law changed pellet, BB and toy guns (all of which look damn real) and the barrel had to be painted orange to avoid identification of a weapon held by someone. To me if someone has one of the older type weapons that looks like say a .45 and they aim it at a person or an officer I would say that is a clean shoot because the officer could not know the weapon was not real.

My wife has a younger brother with a bunch of these airsoft guns that look like ARs, and he thought it'd be a good idea to pain the orange tip black...

My in-laws luckily took the thing away from him after he did that. But not all parents are aware enough to do that.

I don't know much about guns, but it looked indistinguishable from a real weapon.

Fake gun would certainly rely more on the circumstances. Like if it was a 5 year old and they bust in the house and shoot him it might not be justified but a man resisting arrest pointing one at police getting shot might be understandable.
