and now that i think about it, there is an example of a bad song being jammed out. WH 8 Vol 2, Angel with Eric Krasno. song time is a little over 12 minutes, with a great bluesy solo by Krasno. the song blows, but the jam is good. and if you want to go shorter, the 7 minute Mother Father from the same disk features Carlos Santana with a nice little jam at the end. those 2 songs keep their familiar backing sound during the jams, but they weren't extended long enough to really break away from it. if those songs were pushed to a half hour or more, they would certainly have a much different sound during the jam, and there is no reason not to think that the quality of the jam would diminish.

Dont forget LitHoG that is i think routinely played out at least 10 minutes.
Which IMHO I hated LitHoG studio release. awful song lacked anything worthwhile. But when they add the jam and go 10-12 minutes with it, it is actually respectable. I now enjoy that song a whole lot more due to its extension.
I hope to be hitting this gig a second year in a row
Also I unno if this is true, but dont they play out recently alot when they actually get around to playing it?
furthermore i would consider a 10 minute version of a 4-5 minute song a jam. for example YMDT plays alot of the time 8- to what 10 or so minutes . . .. and it sounds more like a jam than an actual studio release .. . ..... . . .
