Ahh thanks for that info. Did not hear about that.

I'm pretty he said "weird" at least twice more in that sentence describing the venue but you got the jist of it. Did you also hear him say, "Dave Matthews gave us $10,000 to put in these balloons", before they threw them out during Time? I'm not sure if he was exaggerating, but I couldn't tell what kind of bills were in those balloons from where I was standing.

Both were pretty awesome. No reason to knock one down in favor of the other.

They each have their own highlights, but here are some of my thoughts.

After listening to N3 of AC, Boyd sounded terrible - which brought that show down a bit for me despite a real effective setlist. Halloween was great from that show, though.

Boyd was all over the N2 Chicago show, and N1 of Chicago sounded pretty solid on the tape.

You know, for it being a big festival, I thought the sound was fantastic. I was also very happy to see some tunes I haven't heard in years return like: joyride, captain, best of what's around.. was very pleased with the shows.. but to be honest, i don't care for festivals all that much.. I can't wait for them to get back on the road.

Re: Can we even try to compare Chicago to AC?

I only went to AC, but when i would read setlists I did feel AC was better (although I wasnt at chicago so how can i tell by performances.) I was just thrilled to hear Halloween and all the other great songs, as well as being COMPLETELY surprised when they whipped out liberations or new covers. Althought for a festival, i hope chicago wasnt as dusty as AC for the festival go-ers. Chicago also had Black Dub on friday... and they are freaking awesome. Although im sure the small theater i saw them in was way better (im an indoor show person. never any wind interferance) Overall I think the only statement that can actually be safely confirmed is that Both festivals were pretty awesome, and differed quite a bit.

I could not agree more with the bolded. (Im speaking from AC point of view) I thought they pulled it off incredibly well. I was so surprised at how well everything went. No trainwrecks for sound, very little feedback. Obviously theyre professionals for everyone in their own fields, but it was phenomenal. I do sound professionly so im a little more into the stuff, but it was incredible.

I think this is the general consensus. I enjoyed being 2 row all 3 days, but festivals aren't my thing.

While I attended, and preferred, AC over Chicago, they were very, very close weekends. I give the edge to AC based on a better N1, a fairly comparable N2 (Chicago's was better, but not by much), and a decidedly better N3. The lack of guests in Chicago factors in for me as well, since Everyday with Vusi was good, #41 with Warren was great, and Two Step with Mobley may have been the best version I've ever seen.

As far as lineups, I actually thought AC's was better overall outside of Umphrey's, who I would have loved to have seen.

The lack of guests in Chicago were fairly surprising. I hope it's different for NYC.

O.A.R. said something along the lines of "Thank you to Dave Matthews Band for having us, can't wait to see them play. I am so excited."

Why do this? I'm sure DMB played outstanding at both venues, and i'm sure everyone had a great time. That's all that needs to be said, why critique a band so much on setlist when that's not what it's all about?

Can't believe lack of guests....no Emmy Lou for LBV or Daniel for Maker? Wow. SOLID weekend though...some of the best performances of songs I've ever seen. I REALLY dug Sweet Emotion w JL

When it comes to DMB, it is almost 100% about setlist. They rarely play anything poorly, and their jams are pretty much all Type I, so the single most important aspect of a show becomes what they play.

thats the thing. it is all about sets when deciding which show is better. guests are positives when they appear on good songs.

its still funny to me that people dislike bayou because its not a well written song. toss robert randolph on it, and suddenly its a good song.

I preferred chicagos two step. Did not like it with mobley at all. Not only did it seem to take away from carter they brought out the wrong drummer to guest.
I still voted for ac but it was very close if halloween shows up in chicago it wins.. (probably my favorite live song)

I think Bayou is fine from a musical standpoint. The lyrics are trite as hell, but I still enjoy it at a show from time to time if it's well played, and I've always like versions with Randolph. I'd actually like to hear it at Governors if RR is sitting in.

Dude, give it a rest. You're pretty much the only one I've heard who didn't think that Two Step was absolutely fantastic. Just because your precious Guster percussionist didn't guest doesn't mean Mobley was bad, because Mobley is fucking awesome (second biggest reason I miss Ben Harper not playing with the Innocent Criminals at the moment, after the fact that he writes better music with the IC).

Yeah AC Two Step was great.
I still can't think of a better version, certainly not in the past few years.

    1. I agree with bayou at this point there is a lot I prefer it to. Bayou sucks when its every show... once every three years not so bad

    2. Brian is better than leon

    3. I don't want an extra drummr on .2 step that's carters moment.
