Just give us more leading up to this album than we got for AFTW. Remember the "hundreds of hours of behind the scenes footage?"
eek, im not sure i would want to hear the songs that don't make the cut for a 2018 dave matthews band album.

Any other details on the vinyl release of the new album?
Nothing other than him mentioning that there would be a vinyl release which, obviously it was already safe to assume that.

I wish I would have asked more about that, but it was towards the end of the conversation and I didn't want to keep him on the phone too long. My head was kind of swimming the entire time because I was half listening to him, and half thinking 'Holy shit I can't believe I'm talking to this guy.'

Yeah, he didn't say "old" songs, just "some you have probably heard before" or something like that. I didn't ask but I'd guess he was referring to Samurai Cop, Bob Law, Bismarck, etc.

There's so many things I would have loved to ask! He seemed genuinely interested in talking about all this stuff and never seemed like he was in a hurry to get off the phone. Probably 3 or 4 times I said "I don't want to take up too much of your time..." to kind of give him an opening to wrap things up but he was very open and engaged with me.

If only you could have dropped Hilly’s name from Antsmarching somewhere in your conversation with him. Would have been priceless to hear him say: “Who?”

Should have told him that the BTCS anniversary release needs to come with a 7" featuring Machead b/w #40!

I consider anything played before the Texas shows this May as "old" in the context of the new album.

I really liked the crop of songs they put out the last year or so. Sam Cop, Bob Law, Bismark, Do You Remember especially.

We will be lucky to get 1 song of anything older then that.

He didn't (and I didn't really ask.) The bulk of the discussion definitely centered on the tour and we spent a lot of time talking about that, as well as memories for tours past and other venues.

I did definitely get the impression that the album is pretty much in the can (he seemed to know what was on it and that he's heard it.) Guessing they are likely now in the mastering/artwork phase and putting together that type of stuff.

Thanks for sharing. Wish you would have brought up Redrocks. I am interested in the real reason why they stopped going there. We should try and get him to do a Reddit style AMA here on Ants.

I’d be interested to shear if there were any little sparks of creativity that they just didn’t know what to do with or didn’t fit the album. Thinks like little red bird or shotgun.

This would be amazing. Although, I'm not so sure the maturity level of Ants could handle it, maybe host over on Reddit.

Thanks for sharing this. It was certainly cool of Coran to set up a call with you and be generous with his time and thoughts. His explanation about the price increase is a bit Cap$haw, but I understand where he’s coming from. Suck about Alpine this year. Not playing there is always the wrong move. Hopefully next year.

There honestly were a million things I could have/wanted to ask him. I really wanted to be careful to not come off like some jaded fan who just wanted to whine. The bulk of our conversation definitely centered around the tour, and specifically the whole Alpine/Summerfest/Chicago thing since that was what caused me to reach out. He was so cool and generous with his time, the last thing I wanted to do was be 'that guy' and be like "Can you tell Dave to stop playing Jimi Thing so much?"

He’s the manager. He’s not an artist/musician on stage. That decision is ultimately Dave’s to make.

Sometimes I wonder if this is actually true, especially when it's a new album tour...

By this logic, Coran has two different managerial strategies going on at the same time with DMB and Phish.

I call BS! Just telling you what you wanted to hear. If they truly wanted to play Alpine they would have. Hea just trying to sell out the shows they have booked. "There is always next year" blah blah blah!

I think the point is that there are reasons for not playing Alpine. Those reasons were explained.
