And if they hadnt taken action, and this "outlier" situation became the norm across the US, the other side would be lambasting them for not taking action.
Their recommendations are mitigation techniques, to stay ahead of another wave. Whats the big F-in deal to wear a mask again for a bit? The situation evolves. Science evolves.

The CDC has been all over the place, but what do you expect while being influenced by the Trump administration? Entity after entity is now being shown to have been co-erced and influenced (mostly for bad) by Trump and his pathetic, ignorant cronies.
The US was on track to squash this thing. Mask mandates, good vaccination rates, etc. Its obvious which group is at fault for the current trajectory that we are going.
