The time I went to the Gorge, I stayed in Wenatchee and drove back and forth - probably wouldn't do that again as it's like an hour each way, but I decided to go late, and that's where I could find a place - hey - it worked out. Just got old driving there by Day 3.

Understand that everyone has different comfort levels and reasons why.

However I would just camp. Law enforcement knows that people are driving and may have had a drink or three.

Not worth the risk of a ticket for me. Camping tickets usually pop up closer to the show if they are hard to find right now.

And that camping is really not roughing it. Disclosure I have not stayed in D9. So I can't speak to the shenanigans over there.

Couldn't agree more. I always camp, but I was pulled over coming out of Wenatchee on my way there in 2018 because I didn't wait to pass the 60mph sign to start going 60mph (I was pulled over LITERALLY next to the 60mph sign, and was cited for going... 57mph). They don't mess around with the ticket revenue on show weekends.

Plus camping is the BEST! That experience is half the draw for me, and where the Gorge friendships are made.

So - just to clarify from my end - my brother and I were both there, and neither of us drove after drinking haha - not even to avoid the DUI, but I'm not driving tipsy on roads I don't know and putting others at risk - we might have had a beer or two in the lot before the show, but that was it. Shipe shape 4 hours later to drive home (or to drive back to SeaTac after N3).

Just making that clear from my end.

We're flying into Seattle Thursday morning, getting all of our shopping done, and then spending the rest of the day/night in Seattle. Starting the drive out to the Gorge Friday morning.

I live here now, but before I did, I flew in for Gorge many times. I would recommend getting in Wednesday and spending some time in Seattle, then heading to the Gorge on Thursday.

On that note, does anyone familiar with Seattle have suggestions for neighborhoods/areas to stay for the night?

Wouldn't be mad at restaurant/bar suggestions, either.

My crew always arrives at the Gorge mid-afternoon on Thursday. That way you avoid the Friday traffic out of town if you're coming from the west side. This has been true for when I lived there and flew in for it. You also get a great selection on camp sites versus coming in with the flood of people on Friday and don't have to cram in setting up camp etc. day of the show.

Highly recommend 1st timers especially to get to camp on Thursday, before 2ish. Allows you to set up camp without the distraction of a show that night, experts will be there and more willing to help out versus showing up on Friday, long line getting into camp, rush to the show and expect to set up camp after the FRI show. Also allows a leisure THUR night to walk around camp.

I'm a first timer, but having done the homework, I would say that the consensus would be to fly in Wednesday or Thursday, and that setting up on Thursday is better than Friday. I took those recommendations to heart, we are getting in Wednesday morning, going to try to catch the Mariners game, and then we'll post up in Seattle Wednesday night. Picking up the car, our gear, and getting our shopping done on Thursday, and plan to be there for N0.

Great call! N0 is the best! Everyone is so excited for the weekend and it’s nice to get there and set up and meet all your neighbours!! Then have all day Friday to pregame for the show without having to stress about arriving, setting up, etc!!

This year will be my first time setting up camp on N0 and I'm STOKED! The camping experience is always the best part and I'm definitely looking to maximize it this year. What camp are you staying at?

And did you see the border announcement yesterday? Fully vaccinated Canadians can now re-enter the country without the 14-day quarantine!!! I'm taking a trip down to visit family in July, I can let you know how the crossing back goes if you're interested...

In all honesty, it might have been at least in part inspired by you (I remember seeing the Canada icon in some of the stuff I was reviewing). We were going to come Friday, but there were some strong opinions on N0, and it makes a lot of sense for exactly the reason you said - I can now enjoy Friday and get excited for the show instead of the stress of having to get there, get set up, etc. (I'm the planner in my group, so most of the responsibility would fall to me, anyway).

We're in District 9... I'm worried I'm a bit too old for that, but by the time we decided to go, there was no Gold left. I'm hearty though. And what better way to throw off the COVID blues than to party my ass off for four nights among some damn fine people!

District 9 is A-OK in my book. Of course, I've got nothing to compare it to...did general camping for my first time in 2014 when I was 33. Haven't been back until this year, and doing general again. We'll see if being the big 4-0 this time makes for a tougher trip! But like you said, just gotta be hearty and it'll all work out.

I'm spending N0 with some friends who live in the Portland area before driving out Friday morning...which is what I did last time, and I don't recall the traffic being all that bad getting into camp early on Friday afternoon. Hopefully now that (most?) camping passes are digital, it will be pretty smooth getting in.

Awesome!! I’m in premier. If you are we should meet up for a drink or two.
I saw the announcement, yes let me know how you make out. I’m not sure how the rules apply for driving across the border but hopefully by September there won’t be any rules.

That’s awesome. You won’t regret it. My first year I was in D9 and had a great time. DMB fans are older now for the most part so I think the days of all night ragers is done. Haha. If you want to try to upgrade to premier or gold usually a few weeks before and leading up too there are a lot available on the boards and in fb groups as people plans change and they sell there passes.

this is what I do every year.

Helps one of my best friends from HS lives in Seattle, but I'd do it either way.

Also allows a leisure THUR night to walk around camp.
always arrive thursday. Peter is 100% right.

if you can swing arriving thursday afternoon, do it.

This may seem like a nit picky question, but how do they assign camping spots?

I'm guessing they start closer to the venue and move back? What would you consider a "good" camping spot? (Besides what provides the shortest walk to the venue?)
