speaking of which, I'm going to the game on 7/3 against the Rays with my dad. Can't wait.

Maybe they play a few games in Buffalo every year from now on even after the border reopens?

In the past 36 hours, the Mets have lost their No. 5 starter to a torn UCL, their long man in the BP to a torn lat, a 7th inning/setup man in Familia to a hip issue (10 day IL), Jonathon Villar to an unknown leg issue, and now Marcus Stroman has left after 1 inning with some issue after a rain delayed start.

They got back Guillorme, Lugo, and McNeil within the last week and a half; but the baseball gods are dicks.

Girardi should be punished if he in fact asked for a check.

The memo to teams explicitly said that managers asking for checks in bad faith would be disciplined. Girardi had apparently said that he would not ask for checks, but the mid inning check begs to differ.

That’s some horseshit and Scherzer should have told the umpires to fuck off. Of any of the elite pitchers, he’s one of the few elite guys that I’d say has likely not used anything. The data on his spin just doesn’t back that up - he, like deGrom, is very subpar in spin.

Wrong. He was ejected for getting into it with Nationals hitting coach Kevin Long (they coached together in NY).

Either way, this proved how much horse shit MLB's new rules are. Girardi exploited them right away to break Scherzer's balls. This league is so dumb.

But him and Long getting into it was simply a result of everything that transpired before - and induced by Scherzer walking off the field with that stare and Girardi taking to the steps of the dugout for a second time after that stare down.

This is all on Girardi for being a dumb-fuck and I hope the league enforces the discipline for bad faith checks that they outlined in their memo.

To be fair, I don't think Girardi's request really qualifies for being in "bad faith." Scherzer was taking off his hat and running his hand through his hair a ton last night, something that even Scherzer said he never, ever does. He explained his reasoning for it after the game, but obviously Girardi wouldn't know that during the game.

Also, Scherzer's average spin rates by inning last night:

1st: 2,132
2nd: 2,144
3rd: 2,061
4th: 2,312
5th: 2,255

Every manager is going to have someone feeding them those numbers during the game. The huge spike in the 4th inning, coupled with constantly going to his hair, is more than enough reason for Girardi to ask for a check. Turns out Scherzer was cleared (and the 4th-inning spike was probably just a result of him ramping things up after a few innings of settling in coming back from injury), but there was plenty of "probable cause" on Girardi's part.
