Before the show started, people in back of us said they heard James Brown was going to appear. I thought "no way!" When he came out, the building shook, and the crowd was energized beyond belief. Carter drove the band and made James sound great, and Dave's dancing duet w/ James was interesting. Halloween during the holidays was a different twist, too.

Oh my god!! This night is exactly why I am a Dave head, and will do anything to go to a show. went to the city with Mitch, Heintz and shep on the look out for tix. Wasnt looking good and started to give up hope, went back to the bar for a couple cold ones. Went back and ran into one, but needed another or it would of been me or Mitch. After almost giving up we found another and at $90 a peice, the boys better show their ass. Well, they did, lets just say that this was the best, highest energy show I have ever been to. Set was SUPER SICK, at least, including a 20 mon Seek Up (NUTS), a Halloween/Ants encore. And last, but not least JAMES MUTHERFUCKING BROWN!!!!! Sex Machine was nuts!!!! Never saw confetti at a Dave show, but tht was fucking great. Perfect night and didn't get to fucked up and enjoyed it to the extreme, perfect X-mas gift to myself....

You know how people always start out a statement like "WOW" what can I say about this. I'm not going to do that with this situation. This show was one of the best nights of my life, being it was my senior year in high school and with christmas right around the corner. Me and my 2 best friends were about to witness the most amazing christmas maricle I could ever Imagine!!!
Thank you Dave Matthews Band the best christmas present ever. James Brown being there shocked the hell out of me as well.

This show was ABSOLUTELY INSANE!!!!.....by far the best I have ever been to and i'm positive others will feel the same way. You could feel the garden bouncin all night long as the boys went sick on everything and then brought in James Brown to tear it up some more....I would not be at all surprised if this came out as a DVD and live cd release. No words can describe the emotions in that place tonight, it sucks for anybody who missed it.

I wrote a school paper about this I will try to fit it in here (alot editing has been done), is there a limit??: ... A second mic was brought out next to Dave, and the band continued to play the closing portion of Too Much over and over again. Then Dave steps up to the mic, and introduces a guest, "LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE GODFATHER OF SOUL, JAMES BROWN!!!" Then the godfather struts on stage and dances like a crazy fool. Then THREE more musicians walk on stage, two backup singers for James, as well as his band's guitarist. The music never stopped, and eventually we found ourselves listening to Sex Machine, you know they one where James Brown is like "Get on up-ah, Get up-ah say Get on up". It was truely magical, and the four of us knew something like this could never happen again. Then, in the midst of the music, Dave and James had a dancing contest type thing, Dave is famous for rolling his legs around, and James is famous for having some of the best cyborg technology done to his body to keep him nimble. When the song was over, after about twenty minutes of pure energy, Dave promised he'd be back. During the little intermission, King predicted Halloween into Ants Marching. Dave and carter came out with santa hats on, so it was implied they were going to play The Christmas Song, and Dave played the first few chords as the other band members walked out. Then Dave threw down his santa hat in a rage and the band busted out Halloween!! Everyone went wild in the crowd, and if you stood still for a second, you could feel the arena litteraly bouncing up and down!! Immediatly after the end of the song, Carter started banging his drum, Ants was coming, King was right. They played an awesome Ants, and the crowd sang every word along with Dave!! After that the lights went on and everyone stood around in a daze..... WHAT A SHOW! We had just witnessed band history!

The most amazing show ever!!!!! Drive in drive out awesome opener really got the crowd goin i love granny its a sweet song. funny to hear the charlie brown x-mas song it was nice. don't burn the pig sweet. seek up was great it went on for like 20 min. first digging a ditch nice. I was so suprised with All Along the Watchtower so early in show. it was awesome boyd played the same solo as at darien lake 7/20. after the space between dave said were gonna bring out 2 of our friends from karl densins tiny universe. the sax and electric guitar guys came out and they played so much to say---> anyone seen the bridge---> too much and as they were finishing too much he said we got a friend comming out mr. james brown!!! he came out with 2 other members of his band and they played for 30 min. he played sex maching for like 10 and jammed for like 20 and james would dance and dave would immatate him. It was soooo amazing. then i called the encore. they all came out i was suprised but excited. he teased on christmas song and then went into halloween AWESOME!!!!!!!! best song then ants. an unforgetable night. So much fun. i went with john l. great show best of the tour.

It has already been said many times, but this show was simply the best I have and probably will ever see. As soon as they broke into DIDO all of MSG knew it was going to be a special night. Seek Up was great, midset Watchtower was a nice surprise although I wish the tease of Dreaming Tree had been a little more, and then James Brown. I have never seen a crowd so into a show as when James Brown came out and the boys broke into Sex Machine. The encore itself was insane. Halloween right into Ants, who could ask for any more? This show is everything that 9-8 at the Gorge should have been.

my first dave show, after loving them for 4 years. my parents and i drove from nova scotia to ontario to pick my brothers up from university, then drove down to nyc for 2 days JUST for this, and they did NOT disappoint. i went with my big bro who got me into them, and when they played "come sister, my brotherrr" in pig, it was quite a touching bro-sis moment... then i see this white flash behind the stage, that nooobody else noticed, and i was like ummm jeff i think i just saw james brown?? he laughs and is like haha yaaa right, youre crazy... LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, THE GODFATHER OF SOUL, MR JAMES BROWN!! the entire building shook. it was fucking incredible. to top it off, a christmas song tease then a santa hat getting violently thrown thrown to the ground into HALLOWEEN, and finally, ANTS CLOSER. not a big deal to some, but that is MY SONG. THE song that i first heard and played over and over that got me into dave. where would i be without that song... so much joy has been brought into my life because i heard THAT song one day... thank you dave, carter, boyd, stefan and roi.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any better...this was an amazing show that just kept getting better and better. Awesome energy, awesome setlist. Almost everything was a highlight, but in particular the midset Watchtower, the James Brown interlude, and Halloween>Ants were standouts.

Wow, fucking amazing. If the band and crowd got any more pumped up the walls would have busted apart! And can we say, JAMES fucking BROWN! Holy shit, I can now say that I saw the Godfather of Soul, Mr. James Brown himself, and nonetheless sing "Get On Up (Sex Machine)." I can't describe this show in words, it was just something I could never have imagined. It was amazing. Oh and to top it off, the setlist was awesome...I can finally cross Halloween off my "hae not heard" list. For the last show at MSG this run the band sure had a lot of energy--you could tell from the first song the show was going to be amazing. Each song was played as though it was the encore. I loved it!!! Can't wait to see them again next tour...can't wait to see what they will surprise us with next!

unbelievable!!!!! James Brown came out at the end and blew the whole crowd away. I've never been to a crazier concert. The only thing that bothered me was that they played too much into so much to say at both pepsi and msg. I wish they would have switched it up a bit. The closer though, ants marching was the best version I've heard yet. After James Brown, the crowd was pumped up so Halloween and Ants were so full of energy. The whole place was singing, I think Dave got drowned out by the crowd but that made it so exciting. Hoping that this version will be on the warehouse 2003 cd.

best show i have seen yet. james brown came on stage for a rendition of "sex machine", the place was grooving all night long. i was dead center and could see the whole place just dancing, it felt as if msg itself was moving along with the music. the confetti and banners all over the place added to it. and a great set. some of my favorites include: granny, grace is gone, watchtower, drive in drive out...many others. my rating: 9.3

what just happened?!, im still in shock............i hope others heard fanzi playing dreaming tree during the intro to watchtower, dave obviously didnt catch on, such a tease. halloween was unbelievable, little jackolantern lights were being thrown into the crowd during the break. we knew it was comin even though the band thought they were tricky puttin christmas hats on. incredible. almost every song was jammed out more than usuall tonite, and james brown just blew the place away. wow.

But James Brown man, made up for daves voice. that was an experience, the whole floor was moving people were goign nuts!!!

God Bless Dave Matthews Band. This was an ABSO-FUCKIN-LEWTLY AWESOME show. Wow. The energy at the "World's Most Famous Arena" was incredible. The boys knew where they were tonight and they weren't fuckin around. They came to rock MSG big-time and delivered Seek Up (badass), DIDO, Pig, gave us a Halloween > Ants Marching encore. Insane to hear Halloween full band again. Section 7 was freakin out! Anyway - James Brown was great and the interaction between him and Dave was priceless. Hands fuckin down - best show I've seen since the '98 tour.

James Freaking Brown! Jump back and kiss myself! This was definitely the most mind-blowing DMB experience that I have had. It totally rocked and it totally worked! The only DMB show I have seen with confetti mortars and fans blowing like crazy - too fun! I am especially grateful since I never got to see the Godfather of Soul in his own show so this was the experience of a lifetime! And they did my favorite song of his - thank you!

This was by far the best show of the 16 I've seen. My friends and I stood in line for 6 hours to get tickets and we were three of the final ten to get lucky. Thank God we did. The setlist is amazing. Then the final 6 songs!!!!! Holy Shit! They jammed out the end of Too Much so everyone knew something was going to happen but I don't think anyone expected FUCKING JAMES BROWN!!! He took the show! Just to see him and Dave and Boyd all dance together with the confetti flying everywhere. God, I never thought anything would ever top 6-11-01 Two Step, but I was way wrong. This was the wildest moment in DMB concert history. Then a full band Halloween straight into Ants!!!! I will never forget this night!

Thanks first off to the Warehouse for the random 5th row seats, right side of the stage on the floor. we were 30 feet from stefan. 15th show or so, and by far the best. energy was highest ever and we were too. it snowed confetti, we saw God when JB came out, and I can say that I can leave this earth comfortably as this show changed my life.

This was my first ever DMB show. While in Penn Staton, I ran into a high school buddy of mine who had been a vet of many shows. He told me that for whatever reason, the first show is greatest. And James Mother Fucking Brown shows up. The Garden literally shook for minutes. I get chills to this day thinking about it. And every time I am in the Garden, whether for Dave or any sporting event, my mind is flooded with memories of that night.

The rest of the set was perfect, though, with the best Granny I've ever heard. Dave did the James Brown dance and he looked embarrassed, so when he came out for the encore he was wearing a Santa hat, and he ripped it off his head and threw it towards Carter's set and started an amazing Halloween, almost seemed as if he was getting rid of his embarressedness, well, I knew Ants was gonna close it, and Carter segued right into the snare hits after Halloween. Great Show!

The whole tour Dave teased Halloween, and when he busted out those first couple of chords, I jumped right outta my skin, as i'm sure everyone else in the building did. The whole place erupted.
