I wouldn't say this was a bad show. Highlights: First 3 Songs SMTS>WWYS Two Step Help Myself, STJL, Loving Wings, Grey Street, The Stone, The Maker

Yeah, this setlist would have mad a lot more sense if it was completely reversed, but still made a good show, except for the encore. The mood kinda died a bit between Help Myself to Where Are You Going, probably my only beef with the setlist, that and What You Are can never, EVER follow that rocking version of Watchtower. Okay, then there was the knife throwin incident. Nobody really realized what happened until Dave announced it before the Encore. Basiclly, i think sometime during STJL or Stone, i dont remember exactly (shoot me a e-mail if im wrong), a knife was thrown onstange between Dave and Boyd... I dont think they even realized it until after the end of the song, cause they left it there until the end of the song when the Guitar tech picked it up. But seriously, that wasn't cool. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, if anyone saw who was responsible for screwing up a otherwise great night of music, call the authorities.

Back in Colorado.....yeehaaaa! This was a great show. My girlfriend and I went and this was here first show. We stayed in Denver and I was blown away by the show. We had great seats and the energy was high. This is also the show where some jackass threw a knife on stage. Is this why DMB did not come to Co in 04?

This was the worst Dave show I have seen. What kind of moron throws a knife at the stage. Credit to the band for playing the encore after that! This knife incident really put a stale taste in my mouth. As for the setlist- very subpar considering the variety in the sets this year. Enjoyed the opening 3 songs and Rhyme and reason but not much else. Was super close to the stage on the side but even that did not help. Just a bad overall show ruined even more by what happened.

The show was great. Very strong opener (SMTS-->ASTB-->WWYS, and then they did Two Step!) , and a good ending. The setlist was strong through the whole show. True reflections was awesome to see. The encore break was way longer than usual. Everyone knew something might have been wrong. When Dave came out he informed the audience that some idiot threw a knife onto the stage and according to the website it landed between Dave and Boyd. That's not cool at all. You would have figured that the fans around there would have mobbed the guy, but I guess nobody saw anything. I loved what Dave had to say though. "LEAVE THE KNIFE AT HOME AND BRING THE LOVE." The crowd went crazy. That and Carter's hard hat made things a little better. Overall it was a great show accept the last part and i'm sad to see my DMB '03 run come to an end. No more shows for me until next summer:(

The entire show was absolutely incredible! I've listened to many of their concerts and few have rivaled in intensity. Almost every song had some sort of a improv jam in it. The only disappointment was the encore. However, this was most likely due to the knife incident. The band was extremely less energetic. Let it be known what a sad state many Americans are in... And why did Carter come back out wearing a yellow hard hat?

Only the second time I've seen DMB in concert, but this was a much better show than the first (which happened to be the Lister Supported show). The sound was much better and I was (a little) closer to the stage.

My first Dave show so far - I would have to say that it was everything that I imagined it to be and then some. I've been a Dave fan since '96 but due to circumstances beyond my control this is the first time that I've gotten to see them live - I'd have to say that their live CDs, DVD's and traders have helped keep me sane all these years. All in all it was a great show - started with an amazing energetic opener and moved into Help Myself from the Trax days... Boyd really added his touch on True Reflections. Dave really did a great performance of Watchtower at the end that just floored me. After then knife throwing incident, they came back for an encore with The Maker and What You Are. The show was great and with the exception of the knife incident, the energy was positive and pure. Thanks to Dave and the other fans for making it a memorable evening.

The show in Denver was fantastic. The band played their hearts out as usual and showed that someone throwing a knife on stage was not going to ruin the evening for all the other fans. Dave said it best "leave your knives at home and bring your love" They played several of my favorite songs and really topped their show from last year!

Great show! I was behind the stage because of ticketmaster, but it was still enjoyable. Amazing solos by Leroi and Carter in Loving Wings! The knife-throwing... I don't understand why someone would do that.

I have to say it was a very good show. I would have liked to have seen a real long jam (Two Step and Crush were very good though) but it was a good first show for my fiance. Surprising that there wasn't too many mellow songs, the energy was up the whole night. Oh an done more thing, screw that guy you threw the huntering knife. Idiot.

Some of my friends complained about the Pepsi Center's accoustics, personally I had no problems at this show or the show in '02. Better venue than Mile High was IMO. I had good seats for this one too, not as close but right on the edge of the Club Level w/ a great view of the stage. As usual Two Step was a highlight for me, and pretty much the whole end of the show starting w/ True Reflections. What a great stretch - Grey Street, Song That Jane Likes, One Sweet World Stone, Crush, Rhyme and Reason, and Watchtower. Maker really topped things off even though the knife throwing incident was disturbing. There was a lot of confusion as to why it was taking the band so long to come back out until Dave came out and mentioned that someone had thrown a knife on stage. The band has not been back to CO since, skipping a tour stop here in '04. Update: the made up for no '04 with 4 nights at RR in '05 ;-)

Wow, this show was great dispite the fact that I booed for the first time (to the knife guy). Although the guy that threw the knife let dave open up and give an awesome all along the watchtower. I was disapointed he didn't play stay in the encore, but who can blame him? Anyway, the concert was awesome and the fans i was around were cool too.

This show was straight up awesome. The play list was so tight. Every song seemed to flow perfectly together. The played a variety of songs from each album plus a few unrecored jams. There was something for everyone. The highlights were Two Step and Crush. DMB played those songs to perfection.

I originally posted this on nancies.org on July 22, 2003. No edits have been made... this is what I said then and I stand by it. (If you are actually reading this.)

It's tough to be original every single time you review a show, especially when you've forgot how many times you've seen the DMB in Colorado. Yet tonight's show, crowd, and vibes had me wanting to jump back into a time machine, and see if this is truly where DMB would have wanted to be, say five years ago. The material is still solid. The crowd is for the most part still enthusiastic. But things have changed - for instance the band delayed their encore for a good 15 minutes waiting for security to make sure the stage was safe after a "fan" had thrown a knife onto the stage at the end of the set. My entire section (116 if you were sitting there) sat most of the show. People were steamed because "41" wasn't played. Or "Everyday" wasn't played. The escalator ride out was an adventure of people bad-mouthing what I had found to be a very energetic, optimistic, love-filled set of enjoyable music. "The Song That Jane Likes" wasn't nearly as appreciated as I remembered it being back on the Rocks. Leroi seemed to not be cheered as loudly as he used to be, and really he had little time to shine. Dave still has things to say, but huge crowds drown him out after "thank you very much." Butch Taylor's keys are delightful, but he's more and more "professional" in his rehearsing and playing with the band after multiple tours. And playing indoors on a night with temperatures in the 80s is a sin only modern concert promoters could make. The pomp and circumstance at DMB shows are so great - light shows, t-shirts, posters, 7-dollar beer, I'm left wondering if the band yearns for the days before "best concert awards" in music magazines. Maybe they go backstage and wish their audience was still college-aged frat boys who shelled out 25 bucks a show, rather than middle-class parents and their children who pay 60 plus dollars to sit behind the stage. Dave gets to play at the Fox Theater in a couple of weeks in Boulder. A nice solo gig that will have tickets being scalped for ridiculous amounts. Boyd will start a tour in the fall, promising a similar environment. It will be anti-DMB. Small crowd, no "hit song demands." It will be simple. Man and guitar. It will be the return to roots rock for a men who started a band based on roots-rock. Oh how complicated the concept has become.

First DMB Show and I was Hooked. such amazing Love and energy all around! I do remember the "knife incident" Dave had mentioned it when they came back to play the encore, and Carter came out with a Hard construction helmet as a joke. The Crowed was upset to hear what had happened to the Band. But Dave said all they wanted was to spread the love and no hate. I thought they handled it perfectly!

From the DMB Road Page: "Unfortunately, towards the end of the main set, an unknown individual decided to throw a hunting knife towards the band that ended up sticking into the stage between Dave and Boyd. There is cause for concern because the motivation behind the incident is also unknown. The band came back on for the encore and Dave made the audience aware of the situation and the band's feelings about the knife-throwing individual. We would appreciate the help of anyone that has any information. After that announcement, there were implications that the knife was not actually thrown, but rather fell from the rafters, or was accidentally dropped. Regardless, the incident was never fully resolved.

Definately a first...knife thrown onto the stage. Stuck into the stage and Dave pulled it out. Luckily, as they say in show business...the show must go on! Thanks DMB for not letting the actions of one lone idiot ruin it for the masses of fans that pour out to support the band.

This was a good one. Loving Wings is precious, the Stone was a real treat. The jerk who threw the knife really messed things up...I thought Dave looked way to angry when singing to be natural toward the end there...all in all, damn good stuff. love the hardhat, Carter is the man.

A rockin' night at the Pepsi Center. After Dave pulled out What Would You Say instead of Too Much and then followed it with Two Step I knew it was going to be a good night. Carter wowed us all with a notable solo at the end of Loving Wings, and they pulled out The Song That Jane Likes, which was a real pleasure to hear. There was a small fight in front of me and then the knife incident which really went against what should have been an easy going and fun evening for everyone. Overall, a great night and a fun show.
