OK, what a show. But before I get to the set list (which I was very happy with), let me just say something to all of you in Hartford, CT. I long for the good old days, where people sing the songs, don't yell at the top of their lungs all night, and don't TALK THROUGH THE SONGS. 90% of the people are there for the social aspect...and the number of people passed out on the lawn BEFORE the show started was mind boggling. Save your money, drink at home, and allow me to enjoy some great music! Now, on with my review...
One Sweet World - What an opener! It was just nice after a 3-week hiatus to see them come out and kick back and give us some nice old stuff...
Proudest Monkey - Half as fast as it's usually played, and they should do it like that from now on. Nice, tight groove and a sweet jam to move into the body of the set.
Satellite - A crowd pleaser, not the best version I have ever heard. But a sub-par Dave song is better than a great song by anyone else!
Grey Street - Took a couple minutes to breathe on stage, and then busted out with this. Great moment for it, it got the crowd back involved with the show.
Idea of You - FABULOUS new song. I enjoyed it greatly, but the crowd was not as receptive. This crowd's outlook was "if I don't know it, I don't care". Hearing this, I am thinking the next album is going to surpass most.
WWYS - Played VERY well tonight, couldn't believe they reached back SO much in the first 6 songs.
Big Eyed Fish - Oh my Lord! To come out and play that song, which I have never heard live, is incredible. That was the second greatest moment of the evening. The top moment is still to come.
Bartender - A classic at a live show. Just a nice, relaxing slow jam to hit the peak of the show. Butch had an incredible solo, and then Rashawn Ross gave us a little Kentucky Derby call via the trumpet. The solo of the night was when Leroi broke into "If I Only Had A Brain" on the pennywhistle. HOT DAMN!!
American Baby - They needed to play this to bring back the crowd after the long jam...damn last night's crowd. Not my favorite song, but still, it's DMB.
Hunger For The Great Light - Dave's "sweet little love song" is just that, incredible.
Pig - LOVE this one live. What more is there?
Can't Stop - My favorite song of the moment. Dave opened the song with a little solo DaveSpeak/singing. He might do this all the time, but this is the first I've heard this song. Absolutely incredible, but still not the best moment.
Sleep To Dream Her - A rare song, a great song, and the bridge section was just heaven. VERY good to hear.
Smooth Rider - THE moment of the night. Soulive guitarist Eric Krasno came out and gave us an intro, and then finished the 20 minute version with a jam of his own. WHAT an addition to that song. The version on Stand Up is WAY too short, so anytime we can hear it live, it makes the night the best ever!
Ants Marching - Typical closer...again, needed to bring the crowd back after a long jam session. They played it well, but I could have heard Two Step, Rapunzel, or Watchtower instead.
Everyday - THEY played great, but the crowd couldn't get together on the audience participation. So, they gave up on the intro and jumped into the song....ugh.
Stay - I LOVE this as a closer. THIS is what that song is meant for. Nice, long jam at the end, and it made the mile-long walk back to the car not seem SO bad.
Not a bad show by any means, but the crowd really ruined it. Go for the music, not the beer.

Started out great. One Sweet World was a great opener. Proudest Monkey and Big Eyed Fish were nice to hear. Best Grey St. I've ever heard. However, when they brought the guy from House of Pain out to play guitar on Smooth Rider, I was a little disappointed. American Baby and Hunger for the Great Light killed the show. Sleep to Dream Her was great, and PJ4REAL29 would wholeheartedly agree; so would Schmuckle. LeRoi has improved his playing since past years. I think that's due to Rashawn Ross. Another good thing is that I barely heard Butch all night. I'm like a junkie for these shows, even though it wasn't as good as last summer, I keep going back. We had to park a mile away from the venue and they was only one exit for 30,000 people. Are there any police in Hartford?

After a two week hiatus the Dave Matthews Band kicks off the second leg of their 2006 summer tour with a strong set that include a mix of DMB’s standard tour catalog along with some newer pieces that are making a strong showing this summer. The show started with a smooth opening of One Sweet World, Proudest Monkey, Satellite and Gray Street. The set did not really get moving until Dave pulled out What Would You Say, a song that followed The Idea Of You, one of the many new songs to be played that night. Other new songs included Can’t Stop. Unlike the beginning of the show- Dave finished strong with Ants Marching, Everyday and Stay.
While fans may have been delighted to hear Sleep to Dream Her, a song that has been absent since September 2003, the set lacked the strong energy at the start that should have been expected with a show like this. Reenergized after a two week break I’d like to see the band start the second leg of the tour with feet running. However the band did set the pace for the rest of the tour with a good selection of songs towards the end. Now that the DMB summer tour is back in full swing, we can look forward to some amazing shows.

It was extremely mellow. The set didn't seem to flow, either. The encore was filled with energy, though...Everyday must have been a last second add-in...could have sworn Dave was going to do a solo Sister. Tomorrow night will be better, that's for sure.

A big thanks to J.P. and Judy for some pre-concert festivities. Any Dave show is a far, far, better place to be than anywhere else I can imagine. Lucky number 14 was no exception. Not the best I've seen, but Red Rocks is hard to beat. Love the new stuff Dave, and you guys are playing the hell out of every song. Setlists are a personal preference, but you can't argue with DMB's talent and ability to rock out night after night. I mean...Bartender, Pig, and Grey Street....THANK YOU CARTER!!! Lot of nice touches and overall band never disapoints. p.s. what happened to the good old days when Bartender ended with ass kicking rather than a 10 min piano solo. I like the old days better.

My 15th show, and I thought it was really good. Heard two songs I had never heard full band (BEF and STDH) so those were very pleasant surprises. I called 8 songs right before they were played, including OSW and Stay, so that always makes it fun. Was with my best friend who isn't the biggest Dave fan, but luckily they played all the songs he knew. In terms of set list, i've seen some negative feedback, but I really enjoyed it. BEF> Bartender, and the Bartender was sick. PM>Sat. First PM i heard since my first show in 02(at the Meadows). Can't wait for Sat. night, but all in all deff a great show

I spent the weekend in Hartford to see both shows. The show started off with a lot of steam but certainly bottomed. Great to Hear Proudest Monkey, Satelite, Big Eyed Fish and Bartender but the set certainly got worse. Smooth Rider which I usually love on live recordings was a real let down live and Eric Krasno who guested on electric guitar would have been a bit better if he stayed offstage. We were hoping for Dave to debut a song for us on this tour we were just not too happy that it had to be Sleep to Dream Her (arguably one of his worst). A decent night, I would been much more upset if I didn't have tickets to the second night.

very disappointing show IMO. I had heard every single song this summer with the exception of STDH. Ive heard Cant Stop my last 4 shows (fenway both and N2 SPAC)...and although they've added stuff to the song it still isnt too good. Before the show started i was saying "please dont open with OSW" and there they go and play it. everyday and stay as an encore sucked...we left when we heard the opening notes of stay. WWYS was pretty cool to see in there, I enjoy that one. Smooth Rider with Krasno was good fuckin shit....him and soulive prob made the night. Krasno on ants wasnt anything to write home about. i couldnt even hear his guitar and he was barely doing anything. Im glad dave likes idea of you so much but after grey street when the energy has been built up? come oooonnn. I'm very skeptical about going tomorrow night...especially in the lawn. people suck in hartford...some guy a row behind me started taking a piss on his knees between 2 seats and i fuckin got the splashes...thanks a lot asshole. if i end up goin tomorrow...it better be worth it....

Last seat in the upper Pavillion. I was worried about being so close to the lawn but I have to say the crowd in 500 triples was great. I had a good time. A little disappointed that he started with One Sweet World again for the third of the 6 Ive seen this summer...but still love the song. The show was good...but I dont think anything can beat Fenway night 2.

A good but uneven night. The band was definitely taking the "ease into it" approach after their break, and had to shake off some of the cobwebs. Dave was having difficulty remembering the lyrics, and Carter had to insist on the second verse of Grey Street, which was funny. Song highlights for me were Idea of You; BEF > Bartender; Sleep to Dream Her; and Smooth Rider. The crowd and the vibe were not cool, a lot of tension, which was a bummer...
