Decent setlist, mostly hits based with few rarities, and the ladies took a toll; fairly short concert and what would you say wasn't great as a closer

Went with Lauren. The band played Be Yourself for the first time ever. Lovely Ladies guested along with Bradford Marsalis

All parts of me say this was a 2.5 but honestly I had a blast and didn't even care that they didn't play the big popular stuff. Last night I said this was a very unique show and I rarely get those. It was a good show and the Lovely Ladies coming out was a treat to Raleigh-Durham. The crowd loved it and it was a show that people will look back on and say they still enjoyed it. The band had fun. The set list was unexpected. Looking forward to Charlotte and DC tonight should have The common songs.

Not the most mind-blowing set of sing-a-longs (there were a few), but in 13 shows over 13 years, this is the most excited I've ever seen the band. Dave was on fire and feeling everything, Boyd didn't get a lot of moments but his wrist is clearly full strength (Jimi, Billies). I was pulled into songs I wouldn't normally get too into. Now a few specific notes: first acoustic Raven, first electric WWYS this year (not a big deal, but unpredictable in the encore), BRANFORD FREAKING MARSALIS who DESTROYED Lover, and the Typical and Jimi jams with Jeff and Rashawn were amazing. This version of Typical was one of the highlights of 13 shows. Never seen the Lovely Ladies live so I loved it, a brand new song (which was really funky), and the crowd came alive for Stay/Granny/WWYS at the end which is the best time to get into it! Overall, definitely not my ideal set list at all, but AMAZING guests, the most UNIQUE setlist I've seen in a while, and the best energy I've felt from the band. They are grooving and playing better than they ever have for me and I'll take that over a Last Stop-Dreaming Tree-Two Step closer any day of the week! Can't wait for Charlotte!

Look - I have been in the group that has been disappointed over the recent issues some fans have been having. All the negativity lately was making me have low expectations. I am sick of the lovely ladies too like many - but look at least they played a new song with them. It means they are listening to the fans I would think. I didn't mind the acoustic set although not a huge fan of it in general as I prefer electric set more. But the electric set was great. 41, lover, typical. Encore wasn't the best but they have a strict 11 pm curfew. It was a solid 4 star show giving it 5 stars to counteract the negativity. I mean for someone to say it's "ruining your summer" because "ugly bitches" come out for 3 f-ing songs. Please do sell your tickets. This was show 136 or so for me since 1997 - I have a lot to compare to. I was happy with the show tonight. Lovely ladies & all. Like any show, when they play a song or two you don't like as will happen any show just grab a beer, take a piss, go smoke a cigarette or whatever. I rarely have written a review but felt compelled to given the recent goings on.

Branford! Amazing Typical! Good overall show. End & encore should have been mid-set songs and had a better encore. Some great moments throughout so I'm happy.

Most fun I've had at a Raleigh show in a while. Cool set and good vibes all around. First Raven! #41,Warehouse, and the LLD, Typical, JImi run with Branford Marsalis were fantastic. Hope they do more weekend shows in NC.

The band was on fire on Friday night even after starting slow during the acoustic set. Snow outside has developed to have a great jam now at the end of it. Highlights of the acoustic set were Song that Jane likes and the acoustic debut of Raven, also enjoyed to Billies closer. The main set was solid! #41 opener 2 new songs including one debut. 4 songs in, Warehouse started one heck of a run of excellent music. Warehouse, Shake Me, then the one and only Branford Marsalis to step things up to another level and make me remember why I love this band. Lover Lay Down was beautiful, easily the best Typical I have ever seen and heard and one of the best Jimi Things I have seen or heard in years, the most improvisational I have seen them in years. Wish he would have stayed out more. The ladies then came out and I don't enjoy them on most songs but they are ok on Save me, Granny, and of course Stay so those were all fun, although predictable. Either way, was one of best shows this early in the tour!

Acoustic set was awesome. 1st Raven. OSW is always great as is Billies. #41 is just a fantastic song. Great opener for 2nd set. Branford on LLD was special. I hope it gets a live release! First LLD as well. For those complaining about a stale set list... Satellite had not been played in Raleigh since 2005. Seven and Shake Me had never been played in Raleigh.

Excellent energy, diverse set list and Branford guesting on not only LLD but Typical and Jimi was a real treat. Other than limitation of song options (and they played a brand new song) I don\'t see why the ladies are so hated. They didn\'t over power Dave or the rest of the band, and guesting on 4 or 5 of 23 songs is not disastrous in my view. The band is clearly having fun and sounding tight and I am even more excited for Atlanta after seeing the energy last night in Raleigh. It was a solid 4 star show but I give it 5 to counter act all the negativity about the ladies. Not sure what real fan is being interpreted as, but I will gladly keep coming back for more as long as they keep the intensity up.

I enjoyed the show. Warehouse was great. Typical was great. Lover Lay Down, #41, Granny. The band looked like they had fun. Ladies didn't bother me that much. I'm not a Stay fan usually, but I enjoyed that tonight. Jane, One Sweet World. Maybe I'm just in a good mood, but I thought it was a great show.

"I mean for someone to say it's "ruining your summer" because "ugly bitches" come out for 3 f-ing songs. Please do sell your tickets."...... I couldn't agree with this more. If you have this big of a problem with the Ladies guesting, go find something else to do. Just flat out disrespectful The band played a solid set and I enjoyed it. I really enjoyed LLD and made the night for me. Looking forward to a couple more shows this summer, maybe some new guests and new songs.

I am seriously considering selling the rest of my tickets for the summer tour. The recent articles posted on the website basically sum it all up. All the true DMB fans think the worthless ladies are ruining the band. What the fuck was Dave thinking for bringing them back for two consecutive tours? They are the main reason ticket sales are down. Knowing these ugly bitches were going to come out for 5 songs at the end of the show put this huge dark cloud over everyone's mood. I couldn't even enjoy the good songs early in the set because of them (and there was a lot of good shit). I am going into every show with incredibly low expectations now. The ladies have single-handily ruined my summer, and are getting close to ruining all true DMB fans lives.

The good - The end of 1st set, ie Raven OSW, Billies. Warehouse, Granny in E1, Brandon Marsalis playing massive versions of Lover Lay Down, Typical, and a unique and fun version of Jimi. The bad - Most of acoustic set is stale. Little red bird was repeated to open the show, can't figure out why. In the electric set, Seven and Shake Me. Enough has been said by other fans, but suffice it to say I am sick and tired of the overplayed songs off that album. Alligator Pie or Dive In would have worked just as well. The middling - Jane does very little for me, as does Satellite, and they're getting a whole lot of play. Classics mind you but still. WWYS is a fun classic Dave song but should never close a set, let alone a show. The ladies - a very controversial and divisive issue, I think the problem is multifactorial and has little to do with the ladies themselves. For those of you who read these things hear me out: the ladies come in at the 4th quarter, play a set of repeat songs which are mostly repeats and the whole feeling leaves a stale taste in your mouth. Fix the problem by playing varied setlists? I don't think so, because frankly no backup singers need to be in the 4th quarter of a rock show, especially a Dave show. The 4th quarter of a show is usually where you wanna be wowed before you stumble out of there going 'holy shit did THAT just happen?' If you read Mark's column Camden N2 2013 is a perfect example. Move the ladies to an earlier part of the show? Not so easy either. Now with the acoustic set back in action, and I get it, the band maybe needs a break and can't play 3 hours straight anymore... but it leaves very little wiggle room in the electric set for fitting the ladies in early on. For example, if during this show they had played the same five songs and THEN Brandord Marsalis came out to kill it onstage in the 4th quarter, I would have left still feeling very off kilter, like besides Warehouse I was just watching a DMB cover act play DMB songs until the end, where I was then wowed. In a 3 hour electric set you can have the ladies come on in for half an hour and no one cares. In a 1:45 minute set, it deflates the show, it just does. I don't have any particular beef with the ladies themselves, I think any backup singers on a stale setlist would make me think the same thing. Overall, above average show because of Branford Marsalis and a few other bones, but with a few song swaps and (by necessity) without the ladies this show could have been epic. Swap rhyme and reason for satellite, Funny for Seven, Alligator Pie for Shake Me, BOWA for Rooftop, and Two Step for WWYS..... not exactly rocket science right. The band is playing tight and well, but we haven't advanced past 2014 and I'm worried the band is making a collection of unpopular decisions without throwing enough bones back at the fans. Stagnation for a band like this is death, so I hope we start to see some innovation soon.

Amazing that you guys actually call yourself fans. Perhaps they bring the ladies up and play the songs they want because they don't give a shit about "fans" like you and just want to enjoy playing music together with their friends. Please sell your tickets I would gladly take them off your ungrateful hands.

Wow! I really really enjoyed this show. With all of the turmoil from the fan base the past couple of days over the state of the band, I was not really sure what to expect tonight. But wow, this sure exceeded my expectations! The acoustic set started off a bit slow with LRB and Snow Outside, but Jane was nice, and that run of Raven thru Billies was awesome! I think this was my favorite electric set since they've gone to this format. Branford Marsalis on Typical Situation was just incredible. Great energy from the band tonight, Boyd sounded awesome, just an absolute blast. I don't typically comment on other people's posts, and I think everyone is free to express their opinion on the band. I'm not the biggest fan of the Lovely Ladies, but to call them "ugly bitches" is offensive, and to say that they prevented you from enjoying the earlier songs and saying they have ruined your summer is just sad. Its this type of attitude that casts a "huge dark cloud over everyone's mood," not the appearance of a guest for a few songs.

SMRADAKO, you are everything that is wrong with the casual DMB fan. Meaning, you appreciate anything the band does, even trash they throw out which is exactly what the Lovely Ladies are. I suppose you want them to bust out a 15 minute rendition of Angel again like they use to back in the day. Please stop going to shows yourself. Seriously! You are only encouraging one of the greatest bands in the history of music to be at its worst.

I'd give it a 4.5 if I had the choice. Started out iffy - Dave looked ill. But he perked up and off we went. I thought it was a great show. Typical with Branford was outstanding. Best of all, to me, they played no covers. How often does that happen?
